As of now, all maginate moves with effects have a coin flip requirement. That is, in order to activate the effect, you have to flip a number of heads equal to the maginate's energy class out of a number of coin flips based on the maginate's energy class plus 1. For example, for a class 2 maginate, you have to flip two heads in three tries to activate the move's effect. Coin flips also show up in effects. The status affliction attack move includes flipping a coin after the attack inflicts damage--getting a heads result will give the opposing maginate the status affliction.
However, I've been pondering getting rid of the coin flip requirement except for when chance is necessary. Why? Because I forgot that coin flips as a card game mechanic annoy some people. To address this concern, some effects include an option to pay the move cost plus 1 to active the effect. I doubt that does much, but I like offering options. Removing the requirement would speed up gameplay. Another reason is to save space. Considering the space given for moves on a standard-sized index card, having more is a good idea. Removing the requirement would also remove the persona gift bonus since it depends on matching the requirement pattern or flipping all heads, although I've been pondering removing that to simplify gameplay.
As always, feedback is welcome.
