This time, we're goin' bigger. Taking suggestions from hasenidal this time: But this is a month-long deal with prizes, so here's the thing: - Creature means animal, so not human and not machine - no people or robots this time.
- Zodiac theme, Western or Chinese - or both.
- No pre-existing characters - this has to be a 100% new concept on your part.
- A full-color image - flat colors and mspaint are totally fine as long as there's an image of your creature.
- A full profile - a name, backstory, powers or abilities if it has them...whatever so long as you give juicy details.
Now, that doesn't mean you can't work whatever you come up with into a concept or story you already had later on - it just needs to be all shiny new for the purposes of this challenge, and not based on that concept you already had. Working these things in is half the fun, anyway! But P-tan, you might be saying, I can't draw animals/do color/suck at writing :(. It wouldn't be a challenge if I went easy mode on you, now would it? The point is to flex those creative muscles and do your best. Plus, you get a whole month this time, and as the challenge runner, I won't even be participating. We'll have a vote at the end to determine the overall winner, but everyone will get something.
1st Place - a full color sketch of the character (original only, I don't do fanart) of your choice. 2nd Place - a full color sketch of your creature. Everyone else - a chibi sketch of the character of your choice (see no-fanart rule above). CHALLENGE ENDS APRIL 30TH AT MIDNIGHT EST and then we shall VOTE

Ladies and gentlemen, behold...the baranak. I went with Pisces for this one.
The baranak is a monster that dwells in lakes and rivers. A carnivorous beast, it feeds on whatever strays into its territory. Larger prey such as humans are dragged into the water by its strong claws and devoured. Sometimes everything--flesh, bone, organs--are gobbled up. Sometimes a little something such as a little bone or bit of tongue is left. The baranak is not a picky eater. If someone hears a faint "yi yi yi yi yi" during the night near a lake or river, he or she should leave at once. If he or she sees a pair or yellow eyes in the water, he or she should run as fast as he or she can, for the baranak will pursue its prey until it reaches the boundary of its territory.
Although the baranak lives in freshwater areas, it mates and gives birth in the oceans. A female baranak lays up to a hundred eggs and guards them until they hatch. Sometimes a few of the new hatchlings bond with each other. Once they are of age, they swim out to claim hunting territory of their own and do not interact with others of their kind until they must journey to their mating grounds.
To kill a baranak, first it must be blinded, and then its brain must be pierced. Killing a baranak without blinding it risks having its bonded siblings go after its killer since they are able to see its death through their own eyes and will not rest under the killer and his or her loved ones become their meals. After all, it's one thing to not like your sibling, but it's another to not care when the food kills him or her.

I'd say we should vote, but with only the one entry that's rather pointless Good work! I like how well rounded your concept is! Now, who is it you want art of?
