Kel and Slushie

Kel is in his 30's, though he seems older.  He's about six feet tall and disturbingly skinny, with a habitual slouch and brooding expression.  His face is long and distinctive, given his olive complexion, hawkish nose, deep-set green eyes and heavy brows.  Most of what makes him stand out, however, is his unruly ginger hair.  This he has a tendency to just pull up in a half-hearted half-bun from which it's forever escaping during the day.  He usually wears dress shirts, casual pants and shoes meant for walking, all of which are clearly not new and get rumpled over time.  If he has a tie on, it'll be tucked into his shirt pocket off-duty businessman style.
Bio:  Kel is absolutely out of his depth.  He was stationed at Camp Stanley in South Korea until his wife died unexpectedly, leaving him with three kids and not much of a plan for the future.  The most he managed to do was get his discharge and move to Tokyo to meet his family halfway, since he didn't want to go back to the US just then, and that's where he's been stuck ever since.  He gets away with knowing more English and Korean than he does Japanese simply because he's not very chatty, but this, plus his overall unkempt look and broody nature, is holding him back from finding a decent job.  He still tries, though, wandering around most days filling out applications wherever he can.
When left to his own devices, or kicked out of the house so he'll get some sun and activity, he used to hang out at a bar near his apartment.  These days he's more likely to show up at the Piffle Princess, at the behest of his Angel.  Slowly but surely, he's starting to show some signs of life, though he still doesn't talk about his late wife, and is trying to do his best by his kids even if most of them don't really need financial support anymore.
He has a weakness for anything with ginger in it, and a very low alcohol tolerance.

 One of the new special edition Ink Layer Angels, Slushie is of slightly above average height and fairly heavy despite her wiry build.  She wears her long, light-teal tentacles tied into a sort of lopsided bow at the back of her head, with the loose ends sticking out to her right.  Her eyes are green, and on each cheek, below her Ika mask, are two large black spots.  Her outfit is fairly simple, consisting of a standard-issue short-legged black bodysuit with a stripe down each side matching her tentacle color, black fingerless gloves, tan boots, and a large military parka in olive drab.  The parka has a fur collar and is held shut at her chest with a large zipper, flaring out from there to two tails at knee length in the front and slightly lower in the back.
Bio: Slushie is the result of Kel's kids - particularly Fern - attempting to break him out of his funk and get him out of the house more often to try something new.  In this, she's been pretty successful, though she doesn't think her job is anywhere near done.  In fact, she's usually the one who steals Kel's cell phone and calls home to check in.  She's very outgoing and easy around other Angels and even humans, and makes friends fairly easily, though she can come off a bit strong.  While she's active and not a fan of sitting around doing nothing, she also isn't a complete spaz and knows how to conserve her energy.  This is particularly handy on the Layer, where she hits hard, if not with style.  If she were full sized, she'd be a force to reckon with, which makes sense as Fern intentionally made her as a reminder of her mother.
