TO USE VDICE: |
It's set for the default D6 since that's really all we need, but has some syntax modifications for rolling specific numbers of dice or dice with different numbers of sides. From the plugin's thread...
Unfortunately, I can't get the editor button which plugs the code in for you not to show, so instead...
So typing
roll 6d6
into the brackets* will get you the following:
Q2LEqZc36d6
For a D2 (aka a coin flip), you'd type
roll 1d2
inside the brackets, which would result in:
1-2
where 1 is heads and 2 is tails.
*Note that you may have to use the roll range="" syntax to get the thing to work properly. Annoying, but it's just one extra word.
Someday, I'll figure out or they will add a way to have more than one set of dice graphics, but until then, here we are =p
IF VDICE ISN'T WORKING: |
Use the Hamete Virtual Dice Server. It's quick, easy, has the features we need, and can optionally keep a secure log of dice rolls* if we opt for that.
There are two options on the page - a text-entry field with some optional additions and a large area for the roll results, and below that "Fast Usage" (we'll get to that). If you're doing something like character creation and rolling up HP, you might want to use the regular roller:
In the example here, I put "3d6+5" into the Dice to Roll field. There's no need for optionals or percentiles. It's worth noting that the Option Display under that can give you either big fancy dice graphics, smaller plain ones, or text-only.
Press the ROLL button, and there you go - actually for starting HP that's not too bad, but I digress. If you don't want to type anything into a text field and are math-savvy, there's the FAST USAGE section right below this. It contains a selection of pre-programmed buttons you can just click and be done with.
For our purposes, we'll be using 2D6, 3D6 and D2 (for coin flips - 50% chances).
*I think we're all fairly trustworthy and not inclined to fudge dice rolls, but if you prefer, I can start up a secure dice-roll log; everyone playing anything involving dice rolls will need to join it in order to see anything, but that's how it stays secure. The site says by default it holds the 200 most recent rolls, and will deactivate after 4 months of inactivity. I'm not sure how much heavy rolling we're going to be doing, so this option is up for discussion. PLEASE chime in![/div]·
